LOWING:       Another of Linwood’s footballing sons has been on the move during the pre-season lull when 24 year old David Lowing made the journey north from Ayr United to hang up his boots in the Stirling Albion dressing room.
A former Linwood schoolboy who honed his ball skills with Linwood St Conval’s Boys Club, David signed up for  Dundee United at the age of 14 back in 1997 to launch a career which has taken him through St Mirrin and Forfar to Ayr United and earned him the nickname of “Psycho”, having been shown two red cards last season.
Delighted to add David Lowing to his squad, Stirling Albion manager, Allan Moore, says “He is a player I have been tracking for a while. I was keen to get him when he left Forfar a couple of years ago”.
Recognising the defender’s past record, Allan Moore comments “He has had a few disciplinary problems in the past and we will need to talk to him about that but he is a good player who can get up and down the pitch and can play at left-back or in the centre of defence”.
All Linwood football enthusiasts are sure he will be an asset to his new club and wish David well.
PLAYERS:   Linwood Rangers Youth Club has welcomed a number of new prospective players for their under tens and under elevens football teams following their Gazette appeal but are continuing to look for more players in both of these age groups.
The popular Linwood club is looking for seven to ten year old youngsters, born between 1998 and 2001 and the potential players are invited to call Robert Lang on 01505 325905 or on his mobile 07793879444 for details of training sessions.
The Linwood club’s under elevens side which is currently playing in the seven a side game but will be stepping up to eleven a side in September is also on the look out for players and those who were born in 1997 are invited to call Colin Craig on 07979815853 and 01505 346537
PARISH HALL:         St. Conval’s new single storey parish hall will be built immediately adjacent to the church in the car park on to Greenfarm Road side with its entrance facing on to Bridge of Weir Road.
The Diocese of Paisley has asked Renfrewshire Council to grant them planning permission for the new parish hall and the plans are currently available for local consultation.
Linwood Community Councillors looked at the plans and proposals at their meeting last night Tuesday, May 20 along with a handful of other applications and their comments will be forwarded to Renfrewshire Council later this week.
MSP:   MSP Wendy Alexander has welcomed the formal application from Tesco to demolish and rebuilt Linwood town centre o include a superstore, shop units, a community centre and community library as well as a new health centre, police station and office accommodation.
The MSP has campaigned vigorously for the redevelopment of the shopping centre since October 2006 and in welcoming the recent step forward congratulates local groups such as Linwood community council, the Elderly Forum, Linwood Active, along with local schools churches and traders for their participation in the consultation process.
She also praises the Community Health Partnership and Strathclyde Police for their contribution.
“Its an important step forward now hat the formal planning application is with Renfrewshire Council” she says; The Council’s planning process includes a statutory consultation period so that local people can still input their views to the Council for consideration”.
